The Daily 5

We have been practicing our Daily 5 routine for awhile now and
the students have been doing great.  Here are some recent pictures of them practicing.

Science Museum

We had a great time on our field trip to the science museum
at Coralville.  Here are a few pictures from our trip.

Landforms

We have been discussing different landforms.  After looking at pictures, videos, and maps, we practiced making landforms out of clay.  Here are some clay mountains!

Math

The students have experienced a variety of math games and sites on our schools laptops.

In Reading, we had been learning about Johnny Appleseed.
While in our Math centers, students rotated to an
apple tasting center with a variety of different apple snacks
from yellow apples and apple jelly to apple juice.
They picked their favorite apple snack, and many were surprised to find they had a new favorite!
After picking their favorite apple snack, they graphed it on our class graph and we kept track of the favorites!

Hat and Pajama Day

Our class participated in hat and pajama day.

Happy Easter!

Hopefully you were all able to enjoy your Easter weekend.
To celebrate, we had a few Easter snacks at the end of our day.  A grandmother of one of our students made jello eggs and has been making them for her grand kids for sixteen years!  We appreciated her making them for us and enjoyed them for our Easter snack.  Thank you!

It's That Time Again...

Reward Time!

On the Friday before spring break the students in Miss McElvoy's class and ours spent their afternoon going on a shape walk/reward trip to the park.

It was great weather and the park tied in nicely to the shapes we had been discussing lately.  We also took our cameras.  The class was asked to find a shape discussed during class and we would either take their picture with it, or they would be the photographer and could take the picture.  Check these out, I think we have some future photographers!

Social Studies

In Social Studies we have began working on animal habitats.
The students love working on projects so they have began to work on posters on either a farm, pond, ocean, rainforest, or desert habitat.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

We had a busy day celebrating St. Patrick's Day.  We had a birthday and many treats.  She brought fun themed St. Patrick's Day snacks and a neat drink.  To make a green drink color ice cubes yellow and blue, drop one or two of each in 7-UP and watch the colors mix to make green!  It was a great idea!
Our leprechaun boys and girls.  I think they are so cute!

Pick a Better Snack

Once a month, we have Pick a Better Snack when the students

get to taste new foods that they might not have tried before, but are also healthy, easy, and fun for them to make.  Here is our Pick a Better Snack and activity for March.

Writing

We finally have had some nice weather so we were able to take
class outside.  The students used things they saw around
them to write a story while practicing using descriptive words.

Science

Solids, Liquids, and Gases
More hands on activities!
We made predictions and observed what happened when we
dropped raisins in Sprite.  The students found out that the
gas in the Sprite make the raisins dance up and down!

Science

Solid, Liquid, and Gas
In Science, we are learning about solids, liquids, and gases. We are having hands on experiences with many different objects that make up these three types of matter. The students and I are excited to try some upcoming experiments also!
Students looked at unknown liquids and used the properties of liquids to try to identify it.

Reward Time!

What a great day we have had!  To show the children how much I appreciated it, we ate lunch in our room and watched a movie!
