Jefferson County Park

It turned out to be a great day for our field trip to the park.  We had the chance to look at different animals, go on a hike and play games.  Thank you to Therese Cummisky for the great day.

The Daily Five

The Daily 5 is a program that the students and I have began using for our morning reading centers.  The stations allow us to focus on different phonics skills we are working on that week.  We also work on writing, spelling, working on words,  and reading strategies.  The Daily 5 is made up of five center choices which are: Word Work, Read to Self, Read to Someone, Writing, and Listening.  Of those five choices, students decide on three centers they would like to go to each day.  The students and I have practiced each station and made charts that hang in front of the room.  For more information:   http://www.thedailycafe.com/   and click on the Daily 5.

Welcome!

Dear Parents/Guardians,
As you may be aware, Mrs. Shea will be going on maternity leave soon.  I am excited to be filling in for Mrs. Shea while she is gone.  I am looking forward to working with you and your children.  First grade is such an exciting time to make new discoveries and new friends.
I’ve attended Indian Hills Community College and Buena Vista University in Ottumwa, Iowa.  I have worked as a Special Education Associate at Pence Elementary in the Fairfield Community School District for three and one half years.  This year I have been substitute teaching in the Fairfield and Ottumwa School Districts.
I will be working closely with Mr. Welch, Mrs. Shea, and the other first grade teachers during my time here.  If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact me at the school between 8 and 4 at 641-472-2957 or email me at lindey.freeman@fairfieldsfuture.org.
                    Sincerely,
                   Lindey Freeman
